Winters are alluring and marvellous weather according to me. I being an extrovert person and travel freak love to travel to hills in winter. Himachal Pradesh is well known for its hilly area not only in India but all over the world. In today’s blog, I will be briefly introducing you to some of the best places to visit in Himachal Pradesh during winter.

I think I have an idea of what you people want to explore. I will be covering many destinations that are must-visits when travelling to Himachal Pradesh. Additionally what things can come in handy and which place to surely visit when you travel to the mountains in winter?

Best Places To Visit In Himachal Pradesh:

1. Rohtang La

One of the most notorious and fascinating destinations in India is Rohtang La. It has a huge craze among people all over the world. Hundreds of people visit this place in the winter season.

a) Rohtang La has an altitude of approx 3800 meters, which is significantly high.

b) From October to the Second Week of November month there is heavy snowfall which I think is worth watching.

c) Marhi is the place between Manali and Rohtang La. It is a place where one can go to do water sports and can relax in the lap of the Himalayas.

d) Rohtang la is a perfect place for sports like trekking, sledge rides, mountain bikes, and skiing which is my personal favourite.

e) On mountain bikes, one travels in mountains covered with snow on a bike with their friends. People enjoy the view while riding and can take halts wherever they want.

f) Skiing is the best ice sport according to me. I have tried it personally, it gives you an adrenaline rush which you would have not imagined in your life.

2. Lahaul and Spiti 

Lahaul and Spiti are two different districts of Himachal Pradesh. But they were merged which made them an amazing combo of two different worlds. People fell in love with this place on their first visit. I was instantly mesmerized by it when I first read about it.

a) The topmost attraction according to me is the 1000-year-old monastery which stands at an altitude of 4150 m. It is the Key Monastery. This place is built lace sits on the lap of the mountains and is mostly covered with snow. It is not only one of the oldest and most magnificent places but also the most spiritual according to me.

b) The Pin Valley National Park, as you are clear from the name is a national-level park. It was established to preserve the rare Flora and Fauna of Himachal Pradesh. Moreover, you won’t believe your eyes after seeing the variety they have.

c) Chandratal Lake, a person like me always gets goosebumps when I imagine myself sitting on the shore of a magnificent water body surrounded by hills. Then a cold breeze when brushes my hair and a chilly wave runs down from my ears. An experience worth dying for. I hope you can relate and will surely visit this place on your trip.

d) As I wrote above that these are two separate districts that were merged. So there will be a pass that connects both, that is Kunzum Pass. it starts from Gramphoo in Lahaul and ends at Kaza the sub-divisional headquarters of Spiti. It is not just a path, it is a path that is covered with snow for most of the time and you need a 4×4 or 4×2 XUV to travel on it. Got a goosebump? I guess you did get one!

Moreover, you can also drive to Lahaul Spiti near Sissu via the Atal Tunnel (Rohtang Bypass) and the south portal of the beautiful tunnel is located 25 km away from Manali.

3. Kasol 

Kasol is one of the top places to visit in Himachal Pradesh in winter, does it requires an introduction? Yes, it does. Many people consider there are not many tourist points to visit over there. They are very very wrong about it. For starters, Kasol is at an altitude of 1600m which is not less in itself.

a) Treks are the pulse for many people and these people live for the adrenaline rush which they get when they trek to different places. Kheer Ganga Trek is a 9 km trek which is one of the best treks one can do. Another unique thing about it is that you can camp on the hill for the night.

b) The second most religious and fabulous attraction near Kasol is Manikaran Sahib. It is one of the Takhts in the Sikh religion. It not only has religious importance but also is famous for its hot spring which has water with healing properties.

c) Tosh Valley is one of the most beautiful villages in Himachal Pradesh. It is at an altitude of 2400 m and is covered in snow during winter. The houses in the village when covered with snow will not let you blink your eyes.

4. Chitkul 

You are a frequent visitor to Himachal Pradesh and have not visited Chitkul. You have wasted your time. Chitkul has an elevation of about 3500m. You can imagine what it will be like in winter.

a) There is a temple called Bering Nag temple in Sangla Valley, which was made to pay worship, Lord Shiva. It is surrounded by hills and looks magnificent in winter.

b) Sitting on the riverside and enjoying ice-cold water by dipping your feet in it is a moment worth living. Baspa River where you can fulfill your fantasies like this.

c) Aakhri Dhaba is the last dhaba of the Indian Borders. That is why it is considered so special. It is not just special for its location, but also for its delicious food. It indeed serves finger-licking food. The taste which one can never forget.

5. Shimla

Shimla is the most preferred and approachable town in Himachal Pradesh. It is well connected to the road. The journey to Shimla starts from Chandigarh which is a beautiful state. Shimla is the capital of Himachal Pradesh and of which it is very clean and well-maintained.

a) The Ridge of Shimla is the centrepiece of Shimla which is very beautifully presented in the famous movie “Three Idiots”. Shimla is best when you visit it in winter. It is snow-covered and sparkles both day and night.

b) Kufri that truly heaven and my favourite spot to visit. In winter you get everything over there starting from Maggie to adventures like snow tube. You get everything snowshoes, snowsuits everything over there. Thus you just need to go there and enjoy yourself in the snow.

c) The amazing train journey by toy train is a joyful and exciting ride for both children and their parents. If you are going on a family trip toy train ride is a must.

6. Kinnaur 

This is one of the best places to visit in Himachal Pradesh during winter expecially for people who are spiritual and hill-loving people. Visiting Kinnaur in Himachal Pradesh will make it difficult for you to come back from there. You will love the ambience over there so much that you will not feel like going back.

a) The Center of attraction in Kinnaur is Kailash Mountain. This place is considered to be the house of Lord Shiva. Although it has an altitude of 6500m, still millions of people visit Kinnaur because of this masterpiece.

b) A magnificent town named Gateway To Kinnaur is another popular tourist attraction of Kinnaur. The speciality of the whole town is that it has houses with beautiful slanting roofs which are surrounded by farms where step cultivation is practised. Adding to this magnificent view the place is encircled with pine trees. I hope you can imagine what I am trying to make you imagine.

c) If you like to watch the sunrise, there is a place in Kinnaur that will not let leave your spot during sunrise. Kalpa is a place with an altitude of about 2800 m and it provides a magical view of sunrise. I can bet that you will not be able to come back from that place once you have seen the sunrise over there.

7. Manali 

Manali is an all-in-one package for travellers. People like to travel to Manali for many different reasons. It serves many different interests like a romantic honeymoon destination, an adventurous sports centre, and even a trekking centre.

a) Did you know there is a Water Spring too? The hot water spring in the Vashisht temple is a beautiful and mesmerizing hot spring. The water here is high in sulfur content which helps in healing skin diseases.

b) Fan of ancient architecture? Have you seen Pagoda? It is the ancient architecture of temples of Buddhist culture. Hadimba Temple is one such example of that architecture.

c) Majestic Spring also known as Nehru Kund is a very beautiful and spiritual place. It is popular for its water which has healing properties in it.

d) Jogini Falls trek is a very beautiful trek, and it takes you to a waterfall in Vashisht. It is a trek of an average length with a 4km distance from Vashisht Temple and it takes around 2hrs to cover the distance. But the whole path is full of eye-catching views.
